Marshall, When I was 8 years old I told my mother I wanted piano lessons. She let me. But I had to walk 2 blocks to my uncles house to practice. It was 6 months or a year before my parents bought a piano. I stuck with it and became a professional pianist. If I had to practice on a piano like you describe it would have been frustrating - - and I'm sure I would not have continued on. Don't do it.
