What about turning and rolling the bass strings? Or using a scotch bright pad on the bass strings and then twisting so that the swedging part of the wire is going in the correct direction. Would that help liven them up? Also Thaks William on the idea about that muffler rail. I'll check that out again when I'm there tuning again. You mentioned manually pulling it forward, what does one grab onto to do that if the front panel is attached and one, the player who wants to use the rail cannot get to the muffler rail because the front panel is is blocking them from reaching in and moving it forward?
