Hello Floyd, This type of action made a come back in the early 30's ( 27% unemployment ) as a cost cutting measure. Several action Company's made them. including the Thayer, Seaverns and Strauch Bros. They are what they seem to be. Namely a " Single Escapement" piano action for Grand pianos. Regulate them as you would an upright. That is the shank resting on the hammer rail. M. Schultz, W. P. Haines, were two of the larger factories that used this type. Two such action models are in the PTGF Museum now, in addition to dozens of other rare models. Hopefully we will again have tours to the Museum at the 2011 Convention to be Kansas City.
