Ron,

I'm late on this but haven't seen mentioned my method yet, so:

I buy heat shrink tubing - I think 3/16" works best, occasionally 1/8" for
small pins.  Same concept as other tubing, but I find that with the shrink
tubing and a mild angled cut, you get a nice fit with little to no shadow.
With a little practice, you can cut the angle so that after shrinking, the
front of the pin is neatly covered and if there is mild gap at the rear, I
don't care so much.  Any gold there will be covered with a string.  I have a
video somewhere, let's see if I can find it...........
