[pianotech] help

You can also get a long flat steel ruler and insert it under the key frame as you lift it with the screw driver to see where you run into resistance to try and locate the place where a screw might be coming up from underneath. I would guess that is the problem and the likely candidate is the lyre or something associated with it. These types of problems are always quite aggravating.

David,

That was exactly what I did, but could not find any screw or bolt sticking out. If there is a screw it must be hidden at the back rail - out of sight. I saw 2 rusty bolts in the bench - wondering why they are there. Maybe they are the old leg bolts? I think I'll have to investigate in that area first.
Hope I can get to it this week.

Ursula

Can you insert a screw driver under the front of the key frame to lift it slightly and shine a light underneath so that you might see where it is hanging up exactly or what it might be? You may be able then to determine just where a lag bolt or large screw may be coming up from (if that's the case) or if it’s something else.

Greg,

There is plenty of space between the drop screws and the pin block. From all the mail I read, it will probably be a screw holding up the back of the action on the treble side. I hope to have some time next week to check it out and hopefully find the problem. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for your effort.
Ursula
