The only breaking elbows I have ever seen came from the early post WW2 
plastic. I am told it came from the maker putting too much catalyst in the mix, 
and thus continuing to harden and crumble.   I can't believe that the 
plastic manufacturers didn't learn anything from that early experience.   I have 
used the green stuff in the past. I wouldn't worry a thing about your using 
them.
