Terry,
I guess we'll have to wait until we get a response from Rafael. I described the one time I worked on such a beast....but, Steinway???? Hopefully, time will tell.<G>

Joe

Indeed Joe. I saw that, but then forgot to ask - what the heck is a double plate?

Rafael,
Hmmm? First, not enough information for proper scaling help. Secondly, I'm wondering what a "double plate" is??? Since I specialize in Olde and Odd painos, that's a term or configuration I've only seen once. That particular incidence was a large upright with a plate in the back of the piano, as well as a plate inside the piano. Both were strung with identical scales. Both shared one sound board. The one on the back could only be tuned by chipping! There was no damping of the back plate/strings, hence it was sympathetically activated by the least little sound! Really an annoying piano to say the least. It was not a Steinway & Sons. It would be nice if you could send some pictures illustrating what you call a "double plate". I'm sure others would be interested, as well.
Regards,
Joe
