on hand for anyone who spruces up used pianos to sell.

Water spots can happen with lacquer or shellac.  I don't know of water
spots with any other type of finish.  
There is a product from Mohawk that is called No-Blush Plus that comes in a
spray can which will remelt the finish.  It has a slow drying solvent which
allows the moisture trapped in the finish to evaporate.  Basically, it's
just solvent, with a very small amount of lacquer in it.  No rubbing
required.  
Mohawk products are often found in professional paint and hardware stores
(not like Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.).
