I used to struggle with getting photo files small enough to post, then 
someone showed me Picasa.  Download for free from Google at
http://picasa.google.com/.  When you "export" a picture file, it lets 
you specify the number of pixels, and the quality of the jpeg 
compression.  Very easy to get a 30k to 50k file that shows all the 
detail you need.
