I suggest to send the translation to Blühtner, so they can put it on their website and future generations of English speaking piano techs don´t have to be despaired anymore.

I think we have arrived at the correct translation of the German regulation procedure, sketchy as it may be.  Except maybe one small thing:  The backcheck, according to the German original, must be angled more than in a normal action.  That, to me, means bent back further and not bent forward as suggested.  Regrdless, the distance of the checked hammer  from the string plane is what is important, and that is 24 mm.



Ric: thanks for moderating this.  However, you credit me with calling the abstract a "thingee".  I'm innocent of that, I can assure you. :^)

BTW, I have looked up abstract and Abstrakte and in neither language can I find a reference to anything that relates to a mechanical component or connector...



John D: It seems we are also close to compiling a glossary of piano action terms for UK and US English:

slap rail - up-stop rail

damper body - damper underlever (grand); damper arm (upright)

set-off - let off

baize - cloth

washer - punching

etc - etc

Maybe we are onto something!
