Unusual Bergen Console

Hello List,

The List Archives do not appear to have any information on an unusual I piano I tuned for a friend recently. Google searches have been fruitless as well. But perhaps this List will provide some information.

What I found is a 40" Bergen console, with 73 keys. Not finding the name in the Pierce Piano Atlas didn't prepare me for what I found when I opened it up:

-All the tuning pins parallel, at the top edge
-I could not detect a metal plate- all the structural elements seemed to be wood
-Non-adjustable hammer rest rail
-The last tuner who signed it was dated 1976

The style of piano was kind of "Danish modern". The condition of the wood and other materials did not look much older than 1976.

I have asked a few people in Seattle about this piano, and they thought it must be MUCH older than 1976, maybe even turn of the last century. My best guess is that it's European, but fairly recent.

Does anybody know anything about this piano?

Thanks,

Ginny Bear
Seattle, Washington
