Young Chang grand action bracket replacement

Good afternoon Bruce,

To my knowledge, after having replaced a number of these, the end brackets
are all the same but there were two different configurations of inner
brackets. One type had a center to center screw hole spacing (for the screws
that hold the brackets to the keyframe) of under 6" while the other had a
spacing of over 6". Regrettably, there's no knowing which type you have
until you pull the action and measure. Just be sure to reset the action
spread and allow for regulation in the cost of the job.

Here's a little trick that might come in handy, while being mindful that's
it's only a temporary band-aid while you get parts: remove the acorn nuts on
top of the hammer flange rail so you can slip a section of let-off button
rail out, place appropriate balance rail punchings on the studs and
reinstall. This saves a ton of regulating with turning the let-off buttons
down to make it work and then back up when the new brackets are installed.
A caveat to anyone else reading this, it's not a permanent fix since
expanding action brackets will continue to expand.

I hope this helps,

Allan

Subject: Young Chang grand action bracket replacement

I know some of you out there have replaced a number of these action brackets
that were made of bad metal and expanded over the years. So maybe you can
tell me if they are all the same size and design. I got a set about a month
ago from Young Chang (they are so hard to get hold of these days). What I
got is for a G-175. That client has not accepted the proposal I sent to
them. I have another client with a Weber WG-50 grand, made by Young Chang,
that needs new action brackets. Are they interchangeable? The owner of the
Weber is ready to go, but I haven't been able to get in touch with anyone at
Young Chang yet. What do you think? Did they only use one size action
bracket?
