fallboard vs. keytops

Just saw a two year old grand made by a top manufacturer.? The client had complained that the fallboard didn't fit right.? When lifted, it would ride up off the pin on which it rotates on the treble end.? (So it's a "pin in the rim" as opposed to a pin in the fallboard design.)? Upon removing the fallboard, it was apparent that the shipping rail (AKA key hold down rail?--don't have my copy of Mason handy at the moment) was much too high on the treble end.? Regulated it correctly, and the falboard no longer rides up.? NOW the problem is that when the fallboard is raised, it depresses about half the keys, mostly on the treble end.? (I know, I know: depressed keys get Prozac.)? The problem of the fallboard pushing the keys down may have been one of the previous "tooners'" motivation to raise the shipping rail, thereby solving one problem while causing another.? (Makes someone who is competent look like a hero by comparison, eh?)

The (original) owner says that no action work (like, say, oh, raising the key height) has been done, and from the wear pattern, that does look to be the case.? I suppose there is a possibility that it came from the manufacturer this way.? It is conceivable that the fallboard had never been on with the action in at the factory until it went out.? At which time either no one noticed (!) or someone did notice but let it go anyway (!!!).? If, however, we assume that "something has gone wrong" that wasn't wrong to begin with, what could it be??
