I agree that a good sounding octave and P5 are the most important. I have a
personal rating system for breaks depending on how many half-steps the beat
rate of the M3s need to jump at the break for these intervals to be
acceptable. Spinets with wound strings in the tenor are usually a 2.

I used to worry that using more than an octave to set the temperment would
lengthen my tuning time, but the opposite is true. I now use a 2 octave
sequence.
