Puzzle??

Also, some of the Whurlies of that vintage (they actually built pianos during the war) were built with the Chinese puzzle-box in mind and have a sliding middle panel that you first move in the in order to free the panels on either side. The panel slides backwards about 3/4" and usually you have to kind of slap-and-push the panel with both hands. Lotsa fun.

Blonde? So not only do you have a Wurly, but a dumb Wurly?

Sorry, had to. I really love blondes!

Some of these old Wurlies have the top lid screwed down from the top. Look right in the area of the music desk and to the left and right of the music desk. There might be two or three vertically-oriented screws that go in from the top that are holding the lid down.

Does this one have the hinged wings on the sides like the beauty below? This one has the lid screws as described above - if I remember correctly, one in the middle behind the music desk, and one at either end. That likely means that the music desk does NOT lift up with the lid (could be wrong about that of course).

For your own entertainment, you might want to go ahead and open up the wings - I think one little screw at the edges of the kneeboard for each side. Then they fold out on hinges. One of the prettiest cases I have ever seen on a piano - and when the whole thing is opened up, the entire back/plate/pinblock area is fully exposed - talk about being able to work on a piano!

Hope this helps.

Look under the arms of the piano for screws/bolts that go up through the arms into the music desk/rack (or whatever you call it). If I recall correctly, sometimes the screws are recessed and sometimes there are long bolts that aren't recessed.
