?? In my experience 95 % of ?Most Stwy pianos use a pin of 2 3/8 th pins. Ocassioanlly the longer one

??? As I see it, a #3 pin is no longer than a #2, so I don't understand the link between depth of wear and size of pin.? Also, it seems to me that most Steinway pianos use a 2 1/2" pin to begin with.? Did I miss something, here?
