Here's what I do: In my local valley (ten mile radius), I have simple local rates. When I leave for the next valley (bigger, more expensive everything), I charge more for my time at work. In addition, I charge a travel TIME fee for new customers and "certain others". (My travel time is half of my usual labor rate.) Charging for travel by the time it takes is important in a place like Los Angeles because it can take a really long time to get to some places during peak traffic. Also, what I charge for travel time comes out to be far more than the mileage deduction. After all, I could be / would prefer to be working on a piano (for the big bucks) rather than driving around. My out-of-local-area service rates are high enough that if I have two or more established customers in the same are, I don't charge for travel at all. My two cents (hey, maybe I should slap a fuel surcharge on that, too!), Alan Eder -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
