Can you describe how you take the temperature/humidity reading?

I agree with Jim and all who have talked about educating the customer before the tuning.

Tell them about the condition of their piano. What needs to be done. What they can expect and when they will need to tune it again.

They always understand................No surprises for them and usually no surprises for you.

Regular customers who are picky? I have educated them and they rarely call me. If they do, I just go and touch-up a unison or two when I'm in the area. I take a temperature and humidity reading and show them the change since I was there last. They usually don't ask for a touch-up again.

In any event, I strongly suggest making it your policy when doing any pitch raise to (a) confer with the client before the tuning about what to expect, and (b) always leave written info about "What is a Pitch Raise". I have my own, but PTG's one-sheet is fantastic as well. You're doing yourself and your client a disservice not to do the above!

Just got back. Piano was in surprisingly good tune - nothing more than two
or three cents off. Only about a dozen notes with whining unisons. Not bad
for seven months after a 25-cent pitch raise.
