It's 1) the felt on the jack position regulating button is 20 years old, and has hardened some, but mostly because the felt has also compressed and 2) the jack position is regulated too far back, and when the jack escapes, the button felt smacks back into the spoon and makes a "pock" sound. Move the jack toward the player, make sure the jack height is correct, and make sure the spring strength is good, and the noise should "magically" disappear. Hope this helps.... DA
