Breaking a String

One tool: Needle nose vise-grip.  Place string loop over/around the plate
pin, weave the string around bridge pins and lightly pinch the upper bridge
pin with needle nose vice grips.  The string will retain its position.  Just
remember to take the vice-grip off or it will be there for the next tuning
or tuner.

Can some of you share with me your method of keeping the string on the hitch
pin and bridge pins while you bring up the tension?
