Good on Ya, Paul. After all, how many times have we all heard "Why does it cost so much?" There are reasons.. There are many ways to reply, I could reply in the same nasty tone or just stick to the facts. Any time you want a product that will deliver up to the expectations of piano technicians you have to buy quality parts. The jacks we install ourselves are manufactured by Switchcraft and each jack presently costs $4.24 at Digi-Key. The cord is custom ordered ten weeks in advance, in 250 piece quantities, costs a little under ten dollars. A rubber coated wire that has a nice feel to the touch and then heat coiled for the application. Inventronics cost for parts in the coiled cord is over fifteen dollars and then the labor of putting the jacks on the cord, and shrink wrapping the jacks so they will last more than twenty tunings. In reviewing the costs, Inventronics should be charging more. Other facts, the thumb switch in question was purchased in 2004 and after four years, I guess, the cord is worn out. I have a hard time understanding piano technicians who make their entire living providing service for customers (sometimes with zero parts) and then begrudge anyone else providing a service and wanting to get paid for providing a quality product.
