Real Customizing of a piano

On some pianos with new boards and more responsive bass configuration, the
high bass tensions are not necessary to get the same power from the bass
and, in fact, with a relatively flexible bass float the original tensions
might be a bit gnarly. Also, some scalers choose to lower the tensions
slightly feeling that it makes a better blend at the crossover. Steinways
tend to see quite a leap in the unison tension from tenor plain wire to the
bass bichords section even when the drop off of the very lower tenor is
taken into consideration. Either way, there are choices that can be made
there.

Thanks Dave,
I don't understand 'sometimes the bass
end tensions are lowered somewhat, ' could you explain?
