I'd check and see how well it was constructed, nails or screws? Crossbracing or just straight boards? Plywood over it I'm guessing, I'm hoping, please don't tell me they used chipboard, sorry oriented strand board. 1/2" is too thin it should be 3/4" or double thickness of 1/2". If all of that isn't the problem try replacing the caster cups with something smaller and more appropriate for those tiny wheels or take 'em off!
