It gives the sales people bragging rights on more sounding board 
area, basic PR BS.
They did the same thing with the bass cutoff bar.

My question would be, how does one restring these? You can't support the block
while driving pins, I've often wondered about this while encountering 
Astin-Weights;
hoping I would not have to replace a loose pin.
