Thickness Planer - Conventional Knives or Spiral Cutter

Terry,   Blades are less expensive to buy and sharpen and if there is 
a variable feed the finish will be hard to tell apart.  R4 knives are 
better than 2,  3 is the standard on most big industrial models.  I 
have 2-----four side,   a five side and  a 32 inch surfacer beside 2 
- 12" surfacers.
