---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Hi Brian, I'm in South Bend. How are you coming along with tuning, training etc. Hve you been raked over the coals yet on this list just for asking questions? :) Whatever you do, be careful of the questions you ask. You might receive a label as I have as a novice tuner or tooner as some spell it. Talk to you soon. Thanks for the phone number. The phone number that I have for Ian is 260-747-0622. Where are you located? Brian P. Are you in the Ft. Wayne chapter? I wonder if we might have met when I first visited the guild chapter meeting at the Culver Music School back in Nov. 04. The reason I"m asking is, I tried to contact Skip the president of our chapter. He's hard to reach. I'd like to join, but I want him to be aware that my application fee is coming. Marshall -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Brian Doepke" <doepkeb@comcast.net> Hi Alan, The membership of the PTG, and this list, have been very helpful with answers to my questions that probably seem stupid. I am very pleased that you could use my little idea. I also attached some Velcro to each flap corner to help keep it closed. Brian P. The idea is brilliant and I am going to use it. I've been putting the tools in handle-first, which risks the occasional stabbing. The numbers ARE the actual size in thousandths of an inch. For example, #48 is .048". Subtract ten from the number and divide by two to match the center pin sizes. So a 48 gives you 48-10=38, 38/2=19. So the #48 tool is, in theory, the same diameter as a #19 center pin. But if you are using it to ream (actually remove) some felt, start with a smaller size, then burnish with the correct size (smooth part of tool only) or a tapered burnisher to compact the felt and try the pin for fit. After getting a new set of flange burnishing tools, I found that it was kind of tricky to re-insert them into the cloth case. The long needles would catch on the cloth. I measured and then cut some plastic drinking straws and slid one into each needle pouch. The pouch downbearing holds the straws in place and now the tools slide right in with out the hassle of getting caught on the interior material. Also, does any one know the actual diameters of these tools? Right now all I have are the numbers 48, 49, ect. that are printed on the handles. Brian P.
