Dave - You've got to learn to do a full 360 attitude-adjustment on this =
subject! ;-) =20

YCs are nothing to worry about, they are something to celebrate! When I =
get a call from a new customer to tune their YC grand the anticipation =
starts. When I find out that the serial number begins with a zero, I =
start panting softly. When I find hammers blocking I start salivating. =
And when the customer tells me that the last tech found the same problem =
previously and kept having to "adjust something in there" I, I, - no, =
get your mind out of the gutter - my eyes start rolling over and =
spinning like a slot machine with dollar signs!

End result: replace brackets - they pay you and they seek reimbursement =
from YC - and do a full regulation - plus tuning, etc. - usually ends up =
well over a grand for a bunch of very fun work! No doubt about it, YC =
expanding brackets are an opportunity!

I find that if you explain the situation thoroughly to the customer, and =
what the other tech was doing, and that most new pianos will need a =
regulation after a few years of break-in anyway, they are usually very =
appreciative that you have finally gotten to the bottom of the cause of =
the troubles they have been having with that darn piano for so many =
years.

My worry here is that it was serviced by a tech who was unfamiliar =
with the problem and could possibly have regulated it occasionally as it =
went out of whack...

My gut feeling, though, is that you are right. At first glance, they =
seem stable.

  Thanks,

  Dave Stahl
