Do you mean the hammer is split or the hammer shank? It sounds like you
mean the hammer shank is split. Why would you want to order a set of
hammers? Just replace the shank. There are sleeves that you can get =
from
piano supply houses (you should open an account with one or more), and =
you
can also repair the shank without a sleeve if the break is long and =
gives
you some gluing surface. =20

Subject: a hammer question

Hi everyone,

I have a future customer who has a piano with a hammer, get this, that's
split. He has the other, top half. Rather than order 88 hammers which =
I
was told would have to be done because I cannot just order one, I was =
given
another idea. I was told that there is a sleeve that can be placed on =
the
hammer shank that is still attached to the action and then the top half =
is
inserted in. Does anyone know if this is a hard procedure as I'm just
getting into the repair side of piano tech? Where can I buy such a =
sleeve?
Thanks again, and if this is one of those, obvious things as CY =
mentioned to
me yesterday, I appologize.

Marshall

Subject: yet another bracket question...

=20

Just wondering: are all of the faulty Young Chang action brackets =
greenish
in color (because of the Zinc content, I would assume)? I tuned one =
today
that a friend owns, and the brackets have not expanded. They are gold =
in
color. I didn't locate the serial number before leaving, so I'm not =
sure
what year it was made.

Every time I go to work on a YC now, I get nervous....
