Hi Don,
When you say split mute, do you mean the mute with the long blue handle?  I 
have two of those.  They can be a pain to put in the right place also?  How 
do you mute the right and left string if you're using just one mute?  Do you 
use the Virgil Smith method with the unisons?  I use that when I get in a 
jam and a mute won't work.
