piano moving technique (pianoplan machine)

I have been following this great thread on moving pianos. There is a company
here in Nova Scotia, Canada who move piano sometimes without a skid. They
had special padded covers made that will accommodate different size grands.
I have seen it used on a grand going down stairs. The lid needs to be
remove. The bag has handles in all of the right places and works really
well.

How is the Pianoplan on softwood and hardwood stair treads? With the treads,
I would think the treads would get damage. Do you still need help getting
the piano set back up on its legs?

Its easy to see the financial benefits! Plus let's say i'm collecting a
grand after a concert at midnight... don't have to rely on people being
available, and obviously havent got to pay them! pianoplan doesn't take
much feeding either (just re-charging batteries after a few days of heavy
use) and of course is always on time for work (as long as I am :))

Yes we do move with one person (my dad and I actually make 2 removal
"teams" with a machine n a van each)

It is mainly for stairs, but we do use it with the D's if there is more
than 1step at a time, and with most pianos if there are more than 4-5
steps (unless we are feeling like a bit of excersice!)

Its got 2 rollers that lift the machine to manuever in stair landings
which are also used to move in flat so its quicker than with the
"caterpillars"...

Can send some more pics if any wants to see

we have the 2 D's on hire tomorrow (6 9fters on stage at the same time!)
so it should be amusing to see all of the grands on the machines being
moved at once (at least one of the other guys that are supplying have
pianoplan as well) will definitely get some pics of that!
