Someone out there mentioned a vacuum. Are you guys referring to those little Dirt Devil type? I'd like to vacuum out a piano especially behind the knee board. Also, is there something useful to clean pins, the plate and even the strings? My hands are black when I'm done tuning.

ps. I was writing up the invoice on Friday with dirty hands, not that I mind dirt, but I want to look professional.

Sounds like a sensible plan, Debbie. Part of my problem is that the kit weighs 14 lbs before I load in the tools! As I'm getting longer in the tooth, I may have to downsize.

I do have several different cases in the car for the more infrequent repair procedures (but nothing as extensive as Isaac Sadigursky). I like keeping the glues and lubes separate from other tools and supplies in a small cooler (except one small white glue bottle goes in the main kit). Strings and stringing tools are in a tool box, repining and many of my regulating tools in a tackle box. Vacuum and cleaning implements are in a large tool box. A couple of two-sided fishing boxes carry small parts, another tool box is for a drill motor, drills and various repair tools, and a large plastic container stores Cory products for sale and caster cups.

Filling the interstices between the cases are a piano-lifting crowbar (for installing the caster cups), a key-leveling straightedge, and whatever didn't fit in the above. A moving blanket covers all the cases and provides a bed for transporting actions.

Always in search of a better tool case...

Hi Tom,
Okay, minus the 5lb. laptop, we're still not close! I carry all I need for tuning and regulating. The repair stuff stays behind in the truck unless I know about the type of repair ahead of time. Even so, it still travels in a different container (kit). I have a "stick um and slick um" kit, a various and sundry small parts kit, string kit, and a (doesn't always travel with me) player piano kit.

Debbie,

My kit weighs in the neighborhood of 50 lbs and I don't see it losing weight soon. My case caries my 5 lb laptop and all tuning and frequently used voicing, regulating and repairing tools. I'm reluctant to make a trip out to the car to get a commonly used regulating tool, for example.
