A few keys on this piano were ok, many were in need of steaming/glue
sizing but 28 or 30 (I lost count) were past that stage.  It is a piano
that has been in a classroom so has not gotten the attention that it
should have had.  When we have more work than we can get done, the
priorities sometimes get skewed.

Have you tried steaming them first? Just curious. I find that when I
steam out bushings=20
from the center rail, I usually end up having to ease the balance rail
holes.=20

Whenever I've done this before I've just placed the kerf by hand and it
generally worked ok.  This time I figured a way to put the kerf in
exactly the right spot.  I put the key in the vice and inserted a
balance rail pin and held it firmly to the back of the hole.  I then put
the saw right against the pin and started the cut.  Each of these came
out exactly right with no chucking and the keys lined up perfectly.

I'm probably the last one in the world to discover this, but it worked!
