New Yamaha M500: "damper rest rail"?

It's the first time I've noticed it; I'll look more closely.  I get a =
lot of spinets and consoles out here.  I can't imagine with the small =
amount of travel that dampers have, that any blow could cause them to =
rebound so far.  The rail is about 1/4" - 3/8" (6 - 8 mm) away from the =
damper heads when the key is held down...

Which reminds me, how the heck do you adjust the backchecks on a spinet? =
 I can hardly get a toothpick between the stickers, much less my wire =
bender...

  To me it is not especially on this model !
  I've always seen such damper rest rails on every upright I've tuned.
