Calin asked: "Thanks to all for the advice on mixing graphite with =
alcohol. I did just=20
that and rubbed it on the jacks with a old piano hammer. Well, it worked =

well enough, but not perfect. The thing is, it won't stick very well.=20
Certainly not as well as the old graphite, which forms a pretty thick =
film=20
on the face of the jack.
So, did the builders add some secret ingredient to the mix in the old =
days=20
to make it stick?

What should I do?"

Calin,
Considering that a lot of the workers were German.......They mixed the =
powdered graphite with BEER! There is some sugar content left, which =
will help the graphite to stick. Also, mix it about the same consistency =
as you would Hot Hide Glue. Once it has dried, burnish with leather, =
(the shiny kind, not the buckskin kind.
