I only use the red rouge on Brass and metal, and have a separate softer
wheel for keys only using the white rouge.=0D

My Key wheel is 6x2 inches and runs at 2850 rpm. I have no problems at th=
at
speed but the harder you push on the wheel the more chances you have of
burning the Key.=0D
=0D
The wheel for Brass and metal is normally fully sewn and harder. After a
while the soft key polishing wheel will harden,so I run the pointy end of=
 a
file across the wheel a couple of times to loosen it and make it softer. =

Here in Australia the rouge comes in the form of a long bar. Hence the na=

I just buffed a set of plastic keys today on my ShopSmith. I slowed the
ShopSmith down to the "jigsaw" setting (almost the slowest setting - a wi=
ld
guess might be 500 rpm - maybe a bit more). I used an unsewn buffing whee=
l.
I used red rouge on the nastiest scratches and marks - the red rouge is
aggressive and leaves a fine scratch pattern. Then I hit them all with wh=
ite
rouge on a similar buffing wheel and they all polished up bright and shin=
y
in just a few seconds for each key.=0D

I also have problems in this area.=0D
I had thought on a softer buffing wheel, but have been unable to find a
source. The selections available at my suppliers, are limited. =0D
Any ideas?=0D
I had thought on slowing the wheel down. Would that help?=0D
