A general description of soundboard function, long.

Actually, it appears that only Horace was really awake, as it appears he seemed to understand the nature the note I wrote.

First off... it was meant private...seem to have trouble lately with that.

Second off... appologies to Terry and Dale were sent privately, as I consider both of them to be friends
and folks I can aggree with and dissagree with without anyone end up getting all bent out of shape about it. Still,
without the benifit of clarification, the statements made about them could by some easily be seen as sluring,
whereas indeed they were not.. quite the opposite really as Dale himself refers to in his reply. That Dale decided to
make public any part of my private appology to him is his buisness, and I am sure he had his reasons.

third off... the essence of my <<criticisms>> obviously do not go in the direction of accusing any one in particular of not
being able to build and design good soundboards... It goes rather in the direction of pointing out that claims some few make
that theirs and only their ways are the best, superior by far to some of the most successfull pianomakers in the world. To
put it in clear text, it is not ME who has a problem with other peoples piano design beliefs.

So, Dale... in an otherwise fine and very appropriate commentary, in keeping with the good style I've come to appreciate from you
so much over the years, I must refute your application towhit characterises me as "someone pissing in the wind" on the subject at
hand. I am most certainly not.

As far as the David Love / Ron Nossaman replies...well...... Nice to see you are still reading me Ron... grin.

Have fun boys, and by the way.... a re-read of the post in question really reveals nothing insulting at all. As Dale so elequently put
it, <<he is proud to be influenced by some of the finest designers>> (paraphrased) My public record also agrees with this. How many times
have I stated publicy that these guys make very convincing arguments, have much to offer... etc etc ad absurdum. I absolutley loved Ron O.s
piano in Reno, and have stated so time and time again. Where they fail is in trying to justify their own standpoints by attacking alternatives...
alternatives that obviously are very very sucessfull indeed. And see no reason why I should not point that out when the occasion arises.
No pot shots Dale... actually an aversion to pot shooting actively and enthusiastically persued.

So ok.. you want to shoot me down... go for it.. grin... but do so for what I actually have said... and not something you think you read.

Cheers

RicB

Actually, a number of us are quite wide awake, thank you very much.

What should be clear from all of the postings on these variously related
threads is that no one person has all the answers; and, further, that,
collectively we all know more than we can possibly know severally. Whether
one agrees with what is published to the list is relatively inconsequential.
What does matter is the exchange of ideas, concepts and experience.

Horace
