I'm quite sure there is. But it is not so common over here, and 
certainly not in mainstream German tradition. I havent had the 
opportunity to hear from the horses mouth as it were from more then a 
few manufacturers... but of those all use compression crowning one way 
or the other.

I think the Koreans mass produce instruments using rib crowned boards... 
but I am not sure. Some while back there was an assertion that old Mason 
and Hamlins did to.. but I believe this was not true, tho I am not 
sure.  Ron Overs, Delwin Fandrich, and Ron Nossaman are passionate 
supporters of rib crowning methods.  I have said, their arguementation 
and reasoning is very convincing. They are far better equipped to 
expound on the subject matter of rib crowning vs compression crowning 
then I.   Dale Erwin and Terry Farrel also are excellent resources in 
this regard.  I'm just the skeptic out here wondering why so much seems 
not to add up.
