Hi all, The Hammer shaper #323 is a little shoeshine devise that is much easier to use than the McCall tool. Felt can be taken off any spot of the hammer by simply putting pressure against that spot with the oscelating knife blade. Its forte is in doing uprights, there is no chance of damper damage like there is with the Fordom tool. One does need a solid support under the hammers being filed like my #321 bottom picture of the silver tray. The shaping of the hammers does cause the felt to ball up on the emery cloth inhibiting the sanding. But if one moves from hammer to hammer doing a little on each hammer at a time, the removed felt cleans off the tape. This also allows one to check the progress of the work so that one evenly removes the felt and does not remove too much.. Fantastic devise for those 80 tear old, never serviced, last time, down to the nub hammers.
