In Florida, because the RH in most homes stays above 40% RH, we make = sure that the RH of the soundboard environment does not get = significantly above 42% (or there abouts) by installing the = dehumidifier. We don't worry about the RH falling below some 42% ideal, = because it just ain't gonna happen! BTW, have you ever measured the RH at the soundboard over a period of = time? Have you ever observed the RH to remain at a constant 42% RH at = the soundboard? That only happens in the four-color brochure I'm afraid. = I'm not DC bashing - I think their products are wonderful and the DC = systems work great - I love the performance of the one installed on my = Boston grand. But if you ever stick a high quality hygrometer at the = soundboard for a while and observe RH at intervals you will find = significant deviations from the magic 42% RH! What the system does seem = to do however is help to keep the MC of the soundboard at an amazingly = constant moderate percentage - and that is what is important for great = tuning stability. Hey Phil, We're talking about keeping the piano at a constant 42%, not making = sure it doesn't get below it. There's a big difference. It is common = to=20 have on average 55-60% relative humidity year round, with AC. Open = the=20 windows, even in the winter, and it goes up. ..so yes, our client's pianos will never see 42% relative humidity = without a DC.
