Hi Dave,

I forgot to address bit size. My recollection is that you use the same size
bit for the size of spring hitch pin. That is to say that an uninstalled
spring-type hitch pin is slightly expanded. If you drill a 7/16" hole for a
7/16" pin, it will make for a nice snug fit. Test it though first on a scrap
piece of iron to be sure. Are you getting the stainless pins from
McMaster-Carr?

I love drilling cast iron. It drills so smoothly and easily. Like butter.
Very satisfying.
