Hi, allthough this will be a bit vague, I would like to know in which =
cases would you consider a soundboard substitution in this piano. This, =
about 30 years old Steinway D, fell sideways while being moved and has =
now a 20cm long crack in the middle zone near the bridge. We were =
suggested to substitute the soundboard.

Substitute a soundboard? You mean replace? A crack, in itself, does =
not warrent replacing a soundboard.

Has anyone done this in this model?=20

  Yes.

What was the old soundboard condition?=20

Multiple cracks, loss of crown (presuming it had some originally), =
development of killer octave.

How much would just the soundboard cost?=20

You can buy just the soundboard for perhaps $3K+. I would recommend =
having it professionally installed though.

Before you mess with the soundboard however, how does the piano sound?

  Thank you,=20
  Hugo
