Rebuilding vs. Buying

Umm, isn't that the client's decision??

Value to the client is not the same as value to the rebuilder or dealer. 
I've seen a case, probably not too uncommon, where someone asks "what is 
this old upright worth that my great grandma bought new?", only to be told 
immediately zero by both rebuilders and dealers.  That simply means that 
neither the dealer or rebuilder can make a profit from it.  It doesn't mean 
that it's not a perfectly serviceable instrument (well, OK - I know the odds 
are against that).  Kind of like that old '89 Taurus the insurance company 
won't give you more than $1000 for, even though it's perfectly maintained 
and runs like a top.  If you wreck it, try to find another car in as good 
condition for that price and you'll have a hard time.
