Here's something to check: I saw this on a bunch of Baldwin uprights, mostly newer than yours. The treble strings' bend around the hitch pin was no where near touching the plate. (1/8" or so) On some the hitch pin was obviously bending... After dropping tension string by string, tapping the strings down and retuning a few times, they now behave like other Baldwin uprights.
