Back then we had real investigative reporting, reporters who asked unscripted questions at news conferences, who were willing to get dirty in situations that didn't make for good photo ops. It was that kind of journalism that turned the tide of public opinion against that ungodly war and got us out of there. They don't make 'em (reporters) like that anymore. Therefore their's is an uneducated vote on election day. Its easy and less time consuming to just turn on Dan Rathers and let him "report" it in a little, few minute clip that passes by the TV screeen so fast, that theres no substantial information for a viewer come away with. That way, the viewer, (who has to get to bed to get up for work OR has kids to pick up from volley ball and or other chores they cant do while at work) can get on with their life. Major network news is anemic. It leaves me with more questions than answers. The answers take time and investigation from ALL news sources and books. People just dont have the time to read or watch long hearings. Not only that, their minds are on paying bills, how their young'ns are doing with school/social upbringings and, home repairs, auto maintenece/worries.....etc. How could they have their thoughts geared on what the government is doing?
