Quick fix for pedal lyre

I often have to install threaded inserts.  These require you to drill out to
a larger hole and screw in this brass insert.  Once in place you may screw
in a machine screw into the center.  These are made for all sorts of sizes.
Every hardware store has them.

Anyone got a quick fix for a fallen down pedal lyre that has the hold-up
screws stripped out?  I can't use a thicker screw (maxed out), can't
fill it with epoxy (It'll run out).  Other that gluing in a dowel and
redrilling, any other  solutions?  I'd appreciate any help.
