I'm hoping someone on this list has dealt successfully with the following problem: I have narrowed the cause and location of a kind of creaky clicky noise in the sustain pedal on a Baldwin 5'8 grand, approx. 20 years old. In the connections, the dowel that goes up thru the keybed has pins on each end. The upper pin is inserted in a tightly bushed hole and it appears that over time, the bushing has worn enough that the glue holding the cloth is now against the pin in a way that creates a noise that is very irritating to the owner. I have lubed the bushing and pin but that only lasts a couple months at best. It appears very difficult to remove and replace the bushing from under the keybed, working thru the hole in the keybed. The only other way of getting to it short of removing the damper tray, is to break the square piece of wood that the bushed hole is in free from the damper tray and then regluing it to the tray. This seems rather barbaric to me and I don't want to go that route unless it is the best choice. In a rebuild, the dampers are out of the piano and the tray can be removed and worked on a bench. The piano is not ready for that extent of work. I would appreciate any help with this someone might have. Thanks in advance, David Lamoreaux, RPT
