Hi Jerry, With a bass string it is easy but with a plain string you might need to tape the pin to the end. I do have a stringer ( the costly one ) but always get the job done with a short piece of spare wire. I make a hook in one end and put a 90% bend in line to the wire, then the next bend is made so that the tail end will be able to fit into the hook. The best thing about the stringer is that it keeps the wires organized as long as you keep one wire longer than the other and can remember wich side that was <G> As you pull the tool off the wire the short wire is used first on the available tuning pin ( leave extra wire so that either pin can be the first ) Let the tube slip down the wire not to be used and make your first coil with the exposed wire. Pull the tube off the second wire and finish the restringing repair. You will have no crossed wiring problems. One important thing is to remember to securly hold the hitch pin end with vise grip pliers or some other tool that you can depend on to hold the loop end in place until you have the string in its proper place and under tension.
