Function of the rim

Our chapter had a Seiler rep give a presentation. If I remember correctly,
Seiler pianos are constructed without the outer rim initially. The outer
rim is basically a case part, and it is put on near last. In other words,
the outer rim does not really play a role in the sound creation. I think I
also remember hearing and seeing that the inner rim is very thick while
the outer rim is thin.
