Short Treble (sustain?)

Indeed, David, both sides, notches and top of bridge are varnished. Re-reading the previous posts, I see that this was not clear, and your remark is very pertinent.
Now, this board has crown (about 2mm near the middle of the longest rib), and at first sight, there is no loose joint between it and the rim (while I find it difficult to ascertain this, with the plate and all strings on it). The strings are not making huge grooves into the bridge top, and I plan to check the agraffee holes for clean contact point.
Maybe cheep thing to try is to take the trebble strings away and sand the varnish away from the top of the bridge, and see what happens. After that, I would go for a new board at a competent shop.

| I assume you are talking about the bridge top. Though I typically see
| varnish on the sides and in the notches, I don't generally see the bridge
| top varnished.

| (Strange, I have never seen varnish on bridges here. In Bechstein pianos,
| even no graffite.)
