How do you pull them and reliably not enlarge the holes in the wooden rail?

Terry,
You use the "handy-dandy" modified Dent Puller. Then size the holes with
50-50 Cold Hide glue and water. If you give the "puller" a twist as you are
pulling the olde pins, they come out cleaner.
